Package includes 27 days of room and food, distributed as follows: 16 days of ESL Classes leading to an ESL Certificate, 6 days of cultural immersion and tourism, and 5 free days.

Depending on age, course duration, and weather, participants may visit the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park, Las Vegas, and Zion National Park. Additionally, Saint George and surrounding areas count with a wide selection of restaurants, local museums, sport fields, lakes and rivers, and multiple natural venues where to practice outdoor sports.
Objective: to offer strategies to improve oral and written proficiency of academic English.
Minimum English level: Intermediate-High in the ACTFL scale. The level will be assessed before arrival.
Students will:
- Become familiar with the structure of a research paper, produce a simple but complete research paper, and write academic correspondence and article summaries.
- Visit classes taught by experienced faculty apt in the delivery of academic content.
- Learn note-taking strategies and engage in note taking during scholarly lectures.
- Practice delivering academic presentations.
- Participate in pre-presentation activities to improve pronunciation and grammar.
- Be part of conversation tables with professionals in several academic fields.
- Participate in experiential activities that require interaction with the local community.
- Enjoy weekend excursions to National Parks and several cultural activities.
Participants’ Outcomes
By the end of the fourth week, students should be able to:
- Produce a basic but complete research paper.
- Produce academic correspondence (e.g., emails, notes, summaries, and memos) observing the conventions of academic writing.
- Demonstrate knowledge of editing strategies used in research papers and other academic communication.
- Create and deliver presentations observing academic standards and expectations.
- Improve language accuracy in oral presentations.
- Compare selected cultural practices of students’ culture of origin vis-a-vis host cultural practices.
Program Structure
Week #1 Introduction to the skills covered in the courses. Become familiar with the structure of academic writing and presentations.
Week #2 Explore research topics through lectures and research. Develop note-taking skills. Conduct basic research.
Week #3 Produce a short but complete research paper. Work on editing skills.
Week #4 Develop and give oral presentations based on research projects. Revise and resubmit research paper.
